Our Friend Faustina, Life Lessons in Divine Mercy

Our Friend Faustina Life lessons in Divine Mercy book cover

Friends, for Heaven’s sake!

Michele Faehnle and Emily Jaminet, the writing team behind Divine Mercy for Moms, have assembled an extraordinary collection of essays by modern women, all joined by their common friendship with one extraordinary person: St. Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938), the Secretary and Apostle of the Divine Mercy.

Sharing tales of ordinary and extraordinary graces with wit and laughter, these faith-filled women explain how St. Faustina has loved them, mentored them, and inspired them to live with mercy toward all. With a foreword by acclaimed author Susan Tassone, this collection will help introduce you to a friend for life (and afterlife!) in extraordinary, ordinary St. Faustina.

These Life Lessons were just what my lukewarm heart needed.  I was moved by the encouraging stories of how others came to be devoted to Divine Mercy and how they were sought and befriended by St. Faustina.  The beautiful prayers closing each chapter further rekindled my joy and love to this saint and devotion to Divine Mercy. If your Divine Mercy Devotion has become tired and St. Faustina needs to befriended again, then let Life Lessons in Divine Mercy teach you to love them anew.

“Life Lessons in Divine Mercy is an inspiring collection of women’s voices, all speaking from different perspectives about the same truth: St. Faustina is a heavenly friend who is alive and working among us, acting in our lives and spreading her message of Jesus’ mercy and love. Reading through, one essay at a time, is an educational, inspirational retreat of Divine Mercy.”

    Our Friend Faustina

Our Friend Faustina – Life Lessons in Divine Mercy reminds us just how alive the message of Divine Mercy is in our day and time.  This book allowed me to reflect on my own journey with Divine Mercy, having learned of it just 10 years ago and having utilized the trust in Jesus to get me through some very tough times with grace.  Through the stories in this book, I was able to connect my journey to the journey of others and find peace as well as the desire to spread the word! The book provides a great introduction into the life of St. Faustina and wonderful quotes from her Diary as they apply to everyday challenges and struggles – I now desire and intend to read the complete Diary

God continues to reveal to us the mystery of (His) Divine Mercy and it is so beautiful when he uses His children to be “tools” to teach us.  Our Friend Faustina – Life Lessons in Divine Mercy does just that. It enables the reader to gain insight into the dept and tenderness of His Divine Mercy through the experiences of faith-filled women who have come to know and love His Daughter, St. Faustina.  It draws the reader into a more personal relationship with St. Faustina, who was so blessed to receive apparitions from our Lord and asked to spread the devotion of Divine Mercy. It’s like ascending a staircase one step at a time – first, to friends of St. Faustina, then to St. Faustina herself, and finally (to the greatest step) – to a stronger relationship with Christ.   Makes me want to pick up a Diary of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska next!

Reading “Our Friend Faustina” brought me so much closer to the person
of Saint Faustina, her love and humanness and the powerful intercessor that
she is. I think of her more and more of that red haired, spirited freckle faced
spark of joy. She chose wisely to entrust Emily and Michele to share with
the other women their real stories of life. A must read!

It’s so awesome how God has given us a safety net of so many Catholic people in our lives. Each chapter was so different because each of us are so different in our walk with Christ. We are all on the same journey but we are on different paths. Sort of like a scavenger
hunt and each saint is a new clue to finding our treasure in Christ.

This is a book full of beautiful real-life stories of growing faith that will console and inspire you! Each author shares her story in such an honest and personal way that we can see our own fears and struggles in them, and we see how each one’s “yes” to God is abundantly blessed time after time. We see how St. Faustina and her diary helped all of them grow their trust in Jesus, and their love for Him and the people in their lives. My only caution is to avoid reading this when you want to go to sleep… it will stir and awaken your soul!

Our Friend Faustina- Life Lessons in Divine Mercy is such a beautiful book. I recommend it to all ages and a perfect book to read in a book club, independently or on the beach on vacation! I love the individual stories shared in each chapter by Faustina’s friends and I found myself praying for each of these ladies as I read their particular story. His Mercy is strong and well. While reading this book I reflected on the first time Saint Faustina tapped on my shoulder. It was in 1997 and I was only 22 years old and I know my friend Faustina has been a part of my faith journey ever since drawing me closer to His Divine Mercy. This will be a book that I will read again and will do so with The Diary of St. Faustina by my side.

This book is a testament that the Communion of Saints are truly alive and intercede on our behalf. In particular, St. Faustina’s intercession in each chapter provides a common thread of Jesus’ merciful love and efficacious grace. Each story provides a vivid account of friendship with St. Faustina and priceless “Life Lessons in Divine Mercy” that will make one ponder.  Jesus told St. Faustina,“You are a sweet grape in a chosen cluster; I want others to  have a share in the juice that is flowing within you”
    (Diary, 393).

A perfect book for group study! Questions were thought-provoking but gratefully not overwhelming. I loved and can see how this book can bring about change for the good in regular people like me. We covered two chapters a night, which I felt was a good pace. Our group really enjoyed our time with Our Friend Faustina.
